And Now Begins The Scariest Part

September 25th, 2004 · 1 Comment

Well, both Sanford and Orlando are reporting winds gusts over tropical storm strength with sustained winds approaching that mark. Curfews are now in force and pretty soon emergency services will be ceasing until the storm has passed us by.

I really think that the cessation of emergency services is probably the scariest part of the whole ordeal. At the point in time where you are most likely to need the services of a paramedic or cop is exactly when they will not come out for safety reasons. I completely understand their reasoning and am not complaining in the least, I want them to be able to enjoy at least a reasonable level of safety during the storm, but it is quite disconcerting to hit the appointed hour and know that if something happens, you are completely on your own. Life or death situations without the blessings of having trained medical assistance. Really quite frightening when there are kids in the house…

I’m going to go try to catch a couple hours of sleep. If I still have power and cable, I’ll be right back at this after my nap. If not, everyone around here – stay safe.

Let us know how you are. I managed to get some sleep but the wind woke me up a bit over an hour ago…
