The Third Amendment
OK, I've tried three times to write some great insightful commentary about this article on the Third Amendment, but I just can't get anything that sounds good.
So instead, I'm going to just let you know that this is a great article that will probably give some excellent insight into the, largely forgotten, Third Amendment.

My grandmother once told me the story of how she grew up on a small farm. They were quite poor. But the army came by once and wanted to stage some exercises on their land, and to stay there for a few days. She noted how they carefully asked for permission to stay there on the farmland--not just in the house, but on the land itself. The family was pleased to oblige.
She also told how the sargeant was furious when she, a little girl, came out and shot with the soldiers, and outshot most of them. Girls are like that. ;-)
But it didn't occur to me until long later to realize how wonderful a thing the first part of that story was--those soldiers had to ask. It probably didn't even occur to them that it would be otherwise.
A great thing, that.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
This is the true forgotten admendment, and the one that States right folks should know by heart.

I couldn't find ANYTHING on the third. Then your site showed me the light! Thanx buckets, mysterious benefactor. Dean, great story, and BigFire, try to stay on topic. Toodle pip!
