Geat photo's.
Watching the news the other day, they had a Marine crying as he described watching innocent children running to supply trucks to receive food and water. His emotions made me proud to be an American. Not only do these brave young men and women have the guts to sacrife their lives for this war, but they are completely aware about what they fighting for.
God bless America and the brave Men and Women who protect it.

You are a total fucking LYING moron!!! The girl in the photo is not an orphan you fuck - her father lies just off camera on the ground with his hands tied behind his back with some high school fucking drop out's boot on his head!!!!!!
go to the reuters website and get the real captions you fuck... what a hack you are.. noble - not!!!!
please tell your readers that YOU rewrote the caption for this amazing picture taken by Damir Sagolj
here is the real caption: A U.S. marine doctor holds an Iraqi girl in central Iraq March 29, 2003. Confused front line crossfire ripped apart an Iraqi family on Saturday after local soldiers appeared to force civilians towards U.S. marines positions. REUTERS/Damir Sagolj
and here is the caption from the other picture in the series - the photo that shows the girl's father on the ground with some GI-JOE loser's boot on his head: U.S. marines gather around a wounded Iraqi girl as they try to treat her in central Iraq March 29, 2003. Confused front line crossfire ripped apart an Iraqi family on Saturday after local soldiers appeared to force civilians towards U.S. marines positions. The four-year old girl, blood streaming from an eye wound, was screaming for her mother while her father, shot in a leg, begged to be freed from the plastic wrist cuffs slapped on him by U.S. marines so he could hug his terrified daughter. The girl's mother died in the crossfire. REUTERS/Damir Sagolj
STOP LYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!
this is not a war of liberation!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this the Reuters that reported the Jenin massacre despite that it never happened? Is this the Reuters that had faked pictures about Rachel Corrie and the bulldozer.
Ya right. Whatever.

I did.
But I don't get what you are saying? You don't have a problem with the Reuters photos? just the actual captions? You'd rather have them rewritten by "freedom lovers"?

Eyeball is right!!

Posted by: bwalker at March 31, 2003 03:23 PMCertain Iraqis like to dress like civilians, grab a gun, grenade, bomb, whatever.... rush up to allied forces and suicide.
It's not like the Fadayeen wear bright-orange soccer jerseys with "SADDAM" on the back. Any allied soldier would be nuts not to be suspicious of an Iraqi that got up close to them. So, I say grab them, bind them, sit them down, and wait to sort it all out when the shooting stops.
"oh his kid is crying, lets let him free so he can *grab a gun and shoot 6 marines while waiting for the 3-sec fuse on his grenade to go off*."

Posted by: freedom lover at March 31, 2003 04:40 PMSo bwalker what you're angry about is that the Marines were treating the wounded that had been fired on by their own people? (after local soldiers appeared to force civilians towards U.S. marines positions. REUTERS/Damir Sagolj)
I suppose you would prefer them to be left in the dust; which is what the wonderful regime of Saddam Hussein would have done.
I believe your emotions are getting the best of you.
Posted by: mlh at March 31, 2003 04:50 PMHey Walker,
Take a chill pill pal. Do you doubt that the Iraqi "brave defenders" would have left the kid in a ditch?
Man, I can't imagine what would make someone hate their country that much!

Posted by: Jim Hogue at March 31, 2003 05:12 PMFor a cyber-intellectual, bwalker sure uses a lot of caps and exclamation points instead of persuasive ideas. Is this the result of a Berkman study? More caps and punctuation equals better argument? Weak.
I'm just a red-state ignoramus, but all y'all free-thinking independent question-authority types sound like a bunch of squealing Chomskys.

Gee, it's the same father you mention getting the chance to hug his daughter, who looks to be all cleaned up after getting treatment from the Marines. I'm really surprised that someone with an email address from Harvard Law would only introduce pieces of evidence instead of the entire picture. Note the time stamp for the link I provided is 11:40 am, where as the picture you have in question,
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/030329/170/3noy3.html
is 11:29 am.
I think even a promising lawyer-to-be such as yourself can put together that chain of events. How about before you try to call people out you follow your own links to get the full story before submitting your own biased views.

Where's the photo of the marine with his boot on the Iraqi father's head? I found a photo with the caption you quoted, but didn't see what you described. Not saying it's not there, just wondering if I missed it.

Hey! Maybe we need a few Harvard lawyer wannabes out there in combat, instead.
A$$HOLE!
Posted by: Redleg18 at March 31, 2003 05:58 PMIt figures that someone from Harvard would have such a dirty mouth. I know how to think for my self and I loves my country. I think we need to do a regeme change at Harvard.
I'm with redleg18
a**hole!
The father wouldn't have been able to bandage up his daughter anyway. They don't have medicines out there in Iraq becasue Osamma doesn't believe in them.
redleg18,
Apparently we have another Harvard Law student here.
This is easily discernable by the large words utilized within the text.
Excellent cut and paste ability, as clearly you have few thoughts of your own.
Although, Harvard Law wannabes in combat is a good idea.
I was wondering, is 18 your age or IQ?
Your inability to keep every other word from being either insulting or vulgar make it clear.
A mini mea culpa.
I did, in fact, change a caption on one of the photos, but not the one in question. I changed the caption on the 3rd photo from "Royal Marines Rock in Umm Qasr" to "A child in Umm Qasr."
All other captions were copied directly from the referenced post at Free Republic.com. I did not change any of them. If they were not the original captions, it was not because of my doing.
I apologize if my changing the caption has caused any confusion.
Also, if you want to change my opinion on a matter, calling me an "total f---ing lying moron" will not help your cause. Tell me someting I don't know; my friends already beat you to telling me that. Give me links to articles or facts about the issue. I do take the time to read them. If you take the time to comment, I owe you the respect of examining your position. I may not change my mind, but I will listen to reasoned factual arguments. Also, I do and will continue post corrections where they are warranted.
Posted by: Chris at March 31, 2003 06:44 PMAs a Viet Nam vet it's obvious to me none of you has ever been in a life-threatening, who's-the-enemy, combat situation outside your local neighborhood bar. It's not an experience you would forget. This war isn't about our G.I.'s abusing locals any more than Viet Nam was about naked kids running, half burned up, through the rice paddies after a napalm attack. I would suggest you all sit back, enjoy your freedom, and let the professionals do what they do best: Hunt the enemy. (and judging from some of your comments I'm beginning to think you might be him.) Basically I believe you have all, for the most part, totally ignored the fact that we are dealing with a regime which intends (or intended) not just to beat us, but to ELIMINATE us. Oh, and try expressing yourselves without the vulgarities and insults. You might be surprised at how many people actually start taking you seriously. (On second thought, never mind - you don't deserve to be taken seriously)

you have nothing to mea culpa about - you didn't change the captions - the folks at Free Republic did - and I don't think there is anything bad to say about them. Dave,
You presume they're employable. I've been working under the assumption that these people are living in their mother's basements. During a job crunch noone in their right mind is going to hire one of these wack-jobs.
Btw, I think this message board got trolled. Bwalker is strangely silent after his hippy^H^H^Hssy fit.
Posted by: Rick at March 31, 2003 09:59 PMJust what we need: more snot-nosed, Harvard-educated lawyers. They are certain to change the world for the better. Somehow, I think we're all better off with the "high school f***ing drop outs," rather than the bwalker and his ilk.
Posted by: U.S. Cavalry at April 1, 2003 10:53 AMnot to say that i agree with bwalker's poorly delivered message, but one must admit that the censorship and all too frequent twisting of the news is frightening and misleading. if the girl's father really was off to the side, why weren't we shown a picture of him? probably because our government didn't want us to see it.
there is also a difference between being anti-war and anti-military; certainly the troops should be supported and know that the country wants them to be safe and come back alive, but that does not necessarily mean that we must support the war itself. doubt is just as much an American quality as patriotism. and not supporting the war in NO way means that someone is a communist...that is an absolutely ludicrous and uninformed accusation.
i'm personally frightened by the ideas espoused by "freedom lover"--racist slurs like "towelheads" are unacceptable. just because the Iraqi god is not ours does not make them inferior people. be tolerant. also, our "great" president, George Bush, IS a graduate of an Ivy league (Yale, in fact), just so you know (though i have no idea how he was ever admitted).
"trailblaze3"--Osama has no connection to Iraq that can be established. this war is not about Osama.
Posted by: mkula at April 1, 2003 06:04 PMmkula: This war was triggered by actions purportedly carried out at the direction of Osama on September 11, 2001. We can only trust that U.S. intelligence correctly made the link between Bin Laden and Iraq.
Regardless, if what we are told is true, I think we would all agree that Saddam and Osama both need to disappear for the benefit of humanity. Which, I believe, was the point of Chris' posting the photographs - a reminder that we are there on a mission based upon humanity - liberating the Iraqi population from such an inhumane regime.
However, I see no point in being drawn into a debate over the motives. Fact is, we are at war. Time to chose up sides. Like it or not either you are with the effort or against the effort. Supporting the soldiers without supporting the job they are doing (fighting a war) is a contradiction. Ask the soldiers - I think they will all tell you they don't want war either but they still fight because that's what they do. For heaven sake, let's not start sending signals to them that would cause them to question their own sacrifices.
Oh, and I tend to agree that racial slurs might be a little inappropriate too.
One more thing: Let's hope we don't make the mistake of putting someone without a college degree (I don't mean a law degree either) into the Oval Office. I would certainly hate to think about the economic crisis caused by someone with a degree in "bumper attachment" having been elected to the office of President. At least this President answered his Country's call when it came instead of hiding in Russia until the heat died down!
(Can you imagine two Iraqis communicating this way about Saddam?)
Freedom. You gotta love it. We would die without it.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!
The little girl in question has been a pawn of the fundamentalist zealots that permeate the middle east lately. She has been and still is the poster child of Al-Jazeera and the Gaurdian and Independant UK to name a few. They have been presenting her face as an example of American war atrocities. They apparently care little about the WHOLE picture and the truth has escaped them completely.
They cropped her photo to exclude the US medics and say nothing but '"see for yourself"
I claim that type of irresponsible deception has directly contributed to more innocents harmed by Saddam's despots and henchmen. I wonder how they feel to have these poor civilians blood on their hands as well? It matters little to them I suspect. It doesn't fit their agenda.
Sadly, the voices of hate drown out the voices of reason.
Don't worry about that nastiness from bwalker. You should be proud to have attracted such a troll so early in your blogdom. On another note, it is a shame how our "elite" universities have become a sideshow of truly dysfunctional personalities. Thank goodness for my state college education that made me employable. GO CATS!

If it wasn't for the liberal media the world would know that America is the greatest country in the world. You need to ask yourself this question: why does the liberal media not want the world to know that America is the greatest country in the world? The answer is because the liberal media is afraid of freedom. They need somone to tell them what to do. They need a government minder to tell them what to think. They need some pundit to tell them what they should think about this war or that war. They need some government official to tell them what doctor they should go to. They want the government to tell them everything! This is not the American way. We are free. We don't need the government to tell us what we should do or think. We can do it for ourselves. So I want you all to stop listening to these negative liberals and be happy - because you are free.
I don't think this is about 'thinking for yourself'
I think this is about thinking that its ok to think its ok to be free.
until you liberals learn about thinking you should leave the thinking to people who know whats going on and know how to respect the government of the people by the people.
you wake up.
Amazing- all the time ya so-called freedom loving bozos have to wank off on your computers. Freedom is great as long as it isn't expressed by someone you disagree with.
If you're so determined to give your real American style freedom to the rest of the world, let us know when you're signing up to help our boys in Baghdad. Oh, you're waiting for the next opportunity in Syria or North Korea to show what you're made of? Yeah right. The next 40 of your posts will be probably be more of the same chest-thumping he-man talk. But that's all it is. Talk (or spew in some cases).
