Chirac still doesn't get it
Jacques "Iraq" Chirac still doesn't get it. He is proving again that he doesn't understand how war works. I am finding it hard to believe that even the French would elect someone this clueless.
The French have been actively obstructionist ever since we started ratcheting up the pressure on Saddam. For this war, they are with the enemy. Did someone not remind them of the maxim "to the victor go the spoils"? Do they really think that by being on the losing side, they get to dictate the terms of the rebuilding?
Chirac needs to take his own advice and understand that "this was a wonderful opportunity to shut up." He doesn't get to object to anything we want to do because he has done nothing to help us. If we choose to leave the French out of any Iraqi rebuilding they can whine and complain all they want, but it is our decision. We did the work; we won the war; we get to decide what happens - that is the fruit of our efforts.
If Chirac wanted to have a say, he should have put forth an effort to help. Playing devil's advocate isn't good enough. Would someone please clue him in?
